The Ministry of Ecology and Environment has acknowledged Guiyang in its "Notice on Accelerating the Construction of the First Batch of Beautiful City Pioneer Zones", noting that the city has already begun deeply integrating green principles into its development and embedding them throughout its urban construction process.
Guiyang's proportion of days with good air quality has remained above 99 percent in recent years, and the excellent water quality rate across 28 national and provincial surface-water monitoring sections has consistently been 100 percent. The city's comprehensive management of the Nanming River and the ecological protection achievements at Hongfeng Lake have also been recognized as national outstanding cases of beautiful rivers and lakes.
In 2025, the proportion of Guiyang's green economy in the regional GDP is expected to stabilize above 50 percent. New energy buses have accounted for 99.9 percent of the total buses, achieving full coverage in the central urban area. The green travel rate in the central urban area has increased to 69 percent, and public awareness of low-carbon practices has continued to strengthen.
Guiyang has continued to deepen its efforts to prevent and control pollution, achieving full coverage of township-level and town-level atmospheric micro-monitoring stations, which enable precise control of key pollution sources such as dust and cooking fumes. The city's excellent air quality rating remains among the top in key cities nationwide, with PM2.5 concentrations reaching historic lows in the past two years, and all 107 important rivers listed in the municipal river and lake directory management system have been removed from the list of inferior Class V water bodies.
Guiyang has built 230 pocket parks, ranking first in Guizhou province, and has completed two medical waste disposal projects, increasing annual processing capacity from 9,205 to 33,400 metric tons, with a 100 percent centralized, harmless medical waste disposal rate. A total of 2,899 residential waste collection points, 21 household waste sorting centers, three wet-waste treatment facilities, and three waste incineration facilities have been built, achieving a "zero landfill" policy for raw domestic waste citywide.
The city has established the "Two Lakes and One Reservoir Management Platform" and the "River and Lake Big Data Platform", which cover 30 key rivers. The platforms deploy 196 hydrological and rainfall monitoring sites, 450 video monitoring sites, and 52 automatic water quality monitoring stations, enabling real-time monitoring and dynamic early warnings for watershed water quality.
Ecological beauty, convenience of life, and governance intelligence are integrated here, coexisting and thriving together, interpreting the essence and practical path of a "beautiful city".
