This year, Paifang village in Gaozhai township, Kaiyang county, is tapping into its natural beauty and convenient location by repurposing idle farmhouses and developing its residential tourism sector.
To support this effort, the village adopted a "village collective + farmers + company" model and established Guizhou Xinsheng Tourism Development Co.
Company director Li Wei revealed that the project follows a "7-2-1" model: 70 percent of the land and unused home are contributed by villagers, 20 percent of the project's operations, marketing, and promotion are managed by the company, and 10 percent owned by the village collective. "Villagers join us in planning, building, and sharing the benefits," he said.
So far, over 80 households have joined the program, creating over 100 jobs and raising annual incomes by 50,000 yuan ($6,991) to 80,000 yuan per household.
To date, the village has renovated 10 guesthouses, two farm stays, and one campsite, with capacity for more than 100 visitors. The village plans to upgrade infrastructure and adding new attractions to boost tourism and support long-term income growth for residents.
