At the renovation site of Hongguang Pond in Bazi village, Kaiyang county, Guiyang, the sounds of excavators and trucks are roaring nonstop. Local residents are working together to remove years of silt and weeds from the pond in an effort to build a freshwater fish farming base.
Since the beginning of this year, Bazi village has been exploring effective ways to strengthen the village's collective economy. After holding meetings with villagers to discuss and plan, the village decided to adopt a "1+1" development model, converting the 20-plus mu (1.33 hectares) of idle land around Hongguang Pond into a freshwater fish farming base. This initiative will rejuvenate unused rural resources, providing new momentum for rural vitalization.
The Hongguang Pond renovation project is expected to be completed by the end of August. After being converted into a fish pond, it is expected to produce over 30,000 kilograms of freshwater fish annually. With an estimated net profit of 4 yuan ($0.56) per kg, the pond would be able to generate an annual income of 120,000 yuan.
In addition, the village plans to combine the development of ecological agriculture with rural tourism, transforming the freshwater fish farming base into a comprehensive leisure destination for activities such as hiking, flower viewing and fishing.
