The overall educational system in Kaiyang county of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been improved, local media reported.

In 2022, two kindergartens in the county were named as city-level "demonstration kindergartens", and 10 primary schools were selected to be part of the province's project to foster "strong government-funded schools".

The quality of the county’s high-school education also steadily improved as the Kaiyang bureau of education won the top prize in Guiyang's education and teaching management evaluation, which included all high schools within the city.

In addition, the county's vocational school is qualified to certify 17 types of work and has become an evaluation unit that is capable of certifying the level of vocational skills. The employment rate of graduates from this school has reached 99.62 percent.

Privately-funded schools have been regulated in an orderly manner. Last year, the qualifications of twelve disciplinary training institutions were cancelled, and 22 non-disciplinary training institutions were also regulated.

Financial support for the county's education increased markedly in 2022. Kaiyang received an education subsidy of more than 12.08 million yuan ($1.76 million) to provide financial support for more than 17,300 students. More than 29.69 million yuan was used to improve the nutritional intake of 58,500 school children.

A total of 530.9 million yuan was invested in education infrastructure development last year. Thanks to the increase in financial support, the county increased its capacity to admit more students, including 1,620 students in the primary or junior high schools and 1,800 students in high school.
