Guiyang and Gui'an enjoy tourism surge over May Day holiday

During the just-concluded May Day holiday, consumption in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, reached 6.99 billion yuan ($969 million), increasing 7.13 percent year-on-year and ranking first in the province. Consumer visits grew 7.5 percent year-on-year to 10.31 million.

In addition, Guiyang was selected as one of the top 10 most popular cities during the May Day holiday by Mafengwo, a travel service and social networking platform. It was also listed among the top five most popular destinations for May Day charter tours by China's online travel agency Ctrip.

Statistics shows that the top five most popular scenic spots in Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area were Qianlingshan Park, Huaxi Wetland Park, Qingyan Ancient Town, Tianhetan Tourist Resort, and Quanhu Park. In addition, Qingyan Ancient Town was included among the top 10 most popular ancient villages and towns in the nation.

During this period, over 500 activities, such as roadside concerts, art exhibitions, tea and fruit picking, and intangible cultural heritage performances were held. The five-day roadside concerts at Zhucheng Square in Nanming district featuring traditional Miao ethnic performances, Dong ethnic chorus, and ethnic costume shows attracted 310,000 visits, offering an audiovisual cultural feast.
