On Oct 24, Kaiyang county in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, was selected as part of the third batch of national agricultural product quality and safety counties by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
The county has strengthened its top-level design, with a total government investment of 13.6 million yuan ($1.89 million). Supporting measures have been introduced regarding the production, operation, circulation, monitoring, and management of the safety of agricultural products. The assessment system for the quality and safety of agricultural products has also improved.
Supervision over agricultural production and operation entities has been enhanced, pesticide use has been further regulated, and the issuance of food product qualification certificates has become stricter.
Emphasis has also been placed on digital traceability, and county- and township-level agricultural product quality and safety inspection stations have been established. A total of 250,000 samples of various types of agricultural products have been tested for quality and safety, and the pass rate has remained above 98 percent.
Technical regulations for standardized selenium-rich products have been introduced as well. Six ecological selenium-rich demonstration bases have been established, and three certifications for green food and five certifications for organic agricultural products have been obtained. Strict measures have also been taken to crack down on illegal activities related to agricultural products. So far, 156 illegal offenses have been dealt with.
