Kaiyang county in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, was recently selected among China's top 100 counties in terms of comprehensive tourism strength, according to the 2023 National County Tourism Research Results revealed on July 29.
The top 100 counties were ranked based on six indicators and 32 indexes, including gross tourism revenue, total tourist trips, the local government's promotion of tourism development, infrastructure and services, and supervision of tourism quality and the tourism market.
The 100 counties were in 18 provinces, including 32 counties in Zhejiang province, 14 in Sichuan province, and 10 in Guizhou province. Among the top 10, seven counties were in Zhejiang. Anji county in Huzhou, Zhejiang province has topped the list for five consecutive years.
The report shows that in 2022, the average total tourism revenue of 1,866 counties across the country was 3.05 billion yuan ($423.26 million), and the average number of tourists received was 3.76 million, down 15.69 percent and 13.06 percent, respectively, from 2021, and recovering to 67.97 percent and 71.92 percent, respectively, of the level in 2019.
Eighteen counties' tourism revenue each exceeded 20 billion yuan.
The report also unveiled China's top 100 counties with the most tourism development potential, four of which are in Guizhou province.
