Waste transfer and sorting centers to improve rural environment

After more than two months of construction, two solid waste transfer and sorting centers built by Guiyang Urban Investment Group have been completed in Kaiyang and Xifeng counties in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

These centers are responsible for the collection and full-scale sorting, compression, and transportation of waste for incineration in various districts.

Both waste sorting centers are equipped with temporary storage facilities for recyclable and hazardous waste, as well as systems for compressing other types of waste, pre-processing kitchen waste, and handling large items.

The waste sorting center in Kaiyang currently processes approximately 200 metric tons of waste per day, serving around 260,000 people locally, while the waste sorting center in Xifeng processes approximately 120 tons of waste per day, serving over 170,000 people locally.

The digital and smart features of the sorting centers have significantly improved the efficiency of waste transfer. The entire process, from garbage trucks entering the waste sorting center for automated weighing and identification to unloading platforms automatically opening doors and spraying deodorizers, takes no more than five minutes.

All the data from the centers has been integrated into the Guiyang Guian Municipal Solid Waste Classification Supervision Platform.

In accordance with the requirements of the municipal Party committee and the municipal government on waste classification, Guiyang and Guian plan to build or renovate a total of 36 municipal solid waste transfer and sorting centers from 2022 to 2023, increasing daily processing capacity to 7,050 tons and serving nearly 7 million people.

A total of 17 municipal solid waste transfer and sorting centers are currently operational, with more than 80 transfer vehicles deployed and a daily processing capacity of 5,720 tons.

The remaining four newly constructed waste transfer and sorting centers will soon be put into trial operation and are currently undergoing equipment debugging and testing. The renovation of 15 upgraded municipal solid waste transfer and sorting centers has also been completed.

Next, the group will work to completely eliminate the landfilling of solid waste in the city, promote cooperation with recycling companies in resource utilization, and accelerate the adoption of waste classification to transform Guiyang into a "zero waste city" by reusing waste.
