During the May Day holiday, which ran from April 29 to May 3 this year, Kaiyang county in Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, welcomed 749,300 visitors and achieved tourism revenue of 389 million yuan ($55.91 million).

The occupancy level at star-rated hotels in the county exceeded 90 percent, and that of homestays and nongjiale, or rural guesthouses, was over 85 percent.

Among all the tourists visiting Kaiyang, 78 percent signed up for one-day tours, along with 58,000 overnight trips.

To help promote tourism and improve tourists' experience during the holiday, Kaiyang organized a series of activities, such as the 2023 Countryside Tourism and Culture Festival and a mountain bike race.

Meanwhile, entertainment options including hiking, rafting, rock climbing, canyon crossing, jungle crossing and camping were offered at Kaiyang's landmark scenic spots such as Nanjing Grand Canyon and the Houer Tiankeng scenic area.
