In 2022, Kaiyang county in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, reached a total output value of 23.48 billion yuan ($3.50 billion) in its industries above designated size, a year-on-year increase of 51.01 percent.

The new energy industry, represented by the phosphorus chemicals sector, played an essential role in boosting the county's industrial development.

Kaiyang is a well-known major phosphate rock production area. The proven reserves of phosphate resources in Kaiyang have reached 1.9 billion metric tons, and the prospective reserves are sitting at 3 billion tons.

Kaiyang's phosphate reserves account for more than 80 percent of the country's total.

Relying on abundant phosphorus resources, the phosphorus chemical industry has become a pillar industry in Kaiyang county.

Previously, Kaiyang's phosphorus industry was once in trouble. The added value of its products was low, its industrial chain structure was not good, and it had not formed a sufficient industrial scale or competitive industrial clusters.

To solve such problems, Kaiyang made decisions to improve the industrial structure of its phosphorus industry, and established a modern industrial system featuring its new energy industry.

The output value of Kaiyang's new energy battery material industry has continued to increase, going from 6.29 percent in 2020 to 20.89 percent in 2022.

Among the new energy materials projects located in Kaiyang, six have an investment scale exceeding 10 billion yuan.

By 2025, Kaiyang will strive to achieve a regional GDP of more than 50 billion yuan and a total industrial output value of more than 80 billion yuan.
