A residential community in Kaiyang county in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has become a typical example of poverty alleviation work in the city.

The Jiangjiazhai residential community, covering an area of several hundred mu, was chosen as the relocation destination for the Kaiyang residents.

Since 2018, a total of 5,836 relocated villagers from 1,380 households have moved to the community, making it the largest of its kind in Guiyang.

Jiangjiazhai is striving to improve its living facilities and services and promoting the development of a 15-minute convenient living circle.

Cultural performances are held regularly for the relocated residents.

Moreover, pre-job training is provided and employment is arranged at the nearest assistance workshop.

Elsewhere, the local human and social department has developed various public welfare jobs to ensure that at least one person from each family with potential workers is employed.

When asked about their living conditions, all relocated villagers said they were more satisfied with their new housing than their previous housing. They all said that if they want a good life, it must be earned.

Sun Yan is one of the people who were relocated.

She is currently working for Kaiyang County Juxing Huimin Service Co.

When she first moved to the Jiangjiazhai residential community in 2019, Sun's family was in a difficult situation, and in her six-member family only her husband was employed – as a migrant worker.

After learning about Sun's family's situation, the residential community offered her a position at her current company, which provides a salary of around 2,000 yuan per month.

Sun is very satisfied with her new life in the residential community as she brings in extra income while having enough time to take care of her family.
