Kaiyang moves to increase income of poverty-stricken population

Kaiyang county in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has set a goal of increasing the per capita net income of the poverty-stricken population in its jurisdiction by more than 15 percent in 2022.

To achieve this, Kaiyang has formulated the Special Action Plan for the Income Increase of the Impoverished Population.

The plan involves the monitoring of unstable impoverished households, marginal households prone to poverty and households facing sudden serious difficulties to ensure that no households fall back into poverty.

Meanwhile, Kaiyang has allocated 3.87 million yuan ($580,645.16) for 81 projects involving pig and beef cattle raising and vegetable planting, which is expected to benefit 1,036 households in the county.

Another 45.65 million yuan has been allocated to support 123 industrial projects, which covers 58,600 people from 22,300 households.

Moreover, Kaiyang has cultivated 22 leading agricultural enterprises and 375 farmers' professional cooperatives, realizing the growth of the village collective economy and the increase of incomes among the poverty-stricken population.

While boosting income increases through industry support, Kaiyang is also making efforts to improve the vocational skills of local residents through multiple forms of training. A total of 1,650 Kaiyang residents have received such services to date.

Additionally, Kaiyang has introduced and cultivated eight enterprises and revitalized eight asset projects. The moves have raised more than 3,200 people out of poverty and achieved an increase of more than 1,300 yuan in per capita net income.
