A lab focusing on supercomputing's computing power and algorithm was initiated by Guizhou University and Guian New Area Sci-tech City Construction and Development Co in Southwest China's Guizhou province on July 13. It is the first of its kind in the province.
The lab will take advantage of the company's supercomputing center and Guizhou University's talent and sci-tech research resources.
Relying on Guian's supercomputing center, the lab will carry out research on artificial intelligence, GPU virtualization technology, biomedical computing, astronomical computing, ultra-high speed network transmission technology, data security encryption technology, localization adaptation, edge computing and more.
It will cultivate more supercomputing technical talent for Guizhou and provide computing power services for scientific research institutes, the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope, biomedicine, and more.
The establishment of the lab will create a cross-industry, cross-region and cross-level talent training system and sci-tech innovation system.
It is expected to increase supercomputing talent and sci-tech innovation in Guizhou and boost its high-quality development.
In 2021, Guizhou became one of eight national computing hub nodes of the "Eastern Data and Western Computing" project. As Guizhou's first supercomputing center, the Guian supercomputing center is a major computing facility co-established by the Guizhou Provincial Department of Science and Technology and Guian New Area, and plays a key role in the project.
