Kaiyang county in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, is renovating old residential communities in its jurisdiction to improve people's quality of life.
The recently renovated Jicheng Mingyuan Residential Community is a prime example.
The residential community has eight buildings housing 328 families and dozens of shops.
In the past, the community suffered from an aging pipeline network, potholes on main roads, bad sanitation, and haphazard parking.

After a comprehensive renovation, parking spaces have been re-planned, the main pipelines have been upgraded, street lights have been installed, and cameras, entertainment facilities and fitness equipment have been added.
In addition, to prevent outside vehicles from using parking spaces meant for residents, the residents of Jicheng Mingyuan Residential Community raised funds and installed an automatic identification system in the newly-renovated parking lot to manage vehicles, improving both safety and ease of parking.
