Kaiyang county in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, recently ranked 53rd on a list of China's top 100 counties with improved tourism industries in 2022.
The findings were included in the 2022 National County Tourism Research Report, which was jointly released by the national county tourism research group and the Beijing Huaxia Baiqiang Tourism Consulting Center, based in the national capital Beijing.
This is the fourth year in a row Kaiyang has made the list.
The list was based on an indicator system covering six areas: the development level of the tourism economy, the role of the government, the drivers of the tourism industry, tourism development and environmental protection, tourism facilities and service functions, high-quality tourism supervision and overall market supervision.

The 2022 National County Tourism Research Report reportedly showed that the top 100 counties in the country with the strongest tourism industries were distributed throughout 19 provinces. Zhejiang and Sichuan were home to the highest numbers of counties, with 35 and 10, respectively.
In addition to Kaiyang county, Qingzhen city and Xiuwen county – also administered by Guiyang – made the national list as well, ranking 63rd and 64th, respectively.
In recent years, Kaiyang has been working to make tourism its top industry, realizing the standardization of industrial layout, setting scientific planning objectives and precise development tasks, and constantly enriching the tourism industry and polishing its tourism brand.
