Kaiyang achieves economic development while protecting environment

Adhering to the concept of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", Kaiyang county in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has managed to achieve both environmental protection and economic development.

In 2020, Kaiyang won the honorable title of National Green Mining Development Demonstration Zone, and its Shuidong township made the list of the first batch of national forest healthcare bases.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), Kaiyang converted 65,100 mu (4,340 hectares) of farmland to forest, built 64,900 mu of forests, and treated 10,200 mu of rocky desertification area.

The forest coverage rate in Kaiyang had increased to 59.22 percent.

From 2016 to 2020, Kaiyang completed the construction of 10 green mines and restored 12 abandoned open pit mines. The treated area had reached 16.12 hectares.

Additionally, Kaiyang has promoted the development of a modern tourism industry involving forest tourism, agricultural sampling, and leisure and entertainment, and cultivated 58 business entities of forestry derived economy.
