Kaiyang on path to high-quality economic, social development

Kaiyang county in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, is exploring a high-quality economic and social development model based on utilizing its advantages in location and resources.

Efforts are being made to build modern industrial systems, develop tourism and heath care industries, advance rural revitalization, and improve urban functions.

Kaiyang is building three industrial clusters and six industrial systems, which include accelerating the construction of a modern core leading industry based around new phosphorus-based materials, an energy storage industry based around power batteries, and a modern logistics industry based around multimodal transportation.

It also includes selenium-enriched modern agriculture, selenium-enriched product manufacturing, and tourism and health care.

Meanwhile, Kaiyang is also consolidating the results of its poverty alleviation efforts and working toward rural revitalization.

In addition, to stabilize its grain growing area of 390,000 mu (26,000 hectares) and grain output of 120,000 metric tons, it is focusing on its five leading industries: vegetables, tea, fruit, medicine, and pigs.

A total of 160,000 mu of high-standard farmland and 15 modern and efficient agricultural parks have been built.

The vegetable growing area has stabilized at 350,000 mu, with an annual output of 550,000 tons, while the tea growing area has reached an area of 170,300 mu, with an output value of 10,500 tons annually.

Furthermore, 279,000 mu of fruit trees and 72,500 mu of Chinese medicinal materials are being grown, and 580,000 pigs are produced for slaughter each year.

Additionally, Kaiyang is implementing an urban expansion and quality improvement plan. It has initiated construction on basic road network projects in the Donghu area and cultural and sports parks and has built 400 public rental houses.

The county is also implementing a number of urban renewal activities and has initiated renovations on seven old communities and backstreets. A total of 56 lanes have been renovated, and 14 shantytown renovation projects are currently underway.
