Kaiyang county in Guiyang -- capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- is seeking more vigorous development and is promoting a new industrialization cluster, according to local media reports.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), Kaiyang's economy flourished. Its regional GDP increased from 18.72 billion yuan ($2.93 billion) in 2015 to 23.70 billion yuan in 2020, with an average annual growth rate of 8.8 percent.

The accumulated value of its manufacturers above a designated size -- those with annual sales of 20 million yuan or more -- reached 26.44 billion yuan, for an average annual growth rate of 5.38 percent during the period.

Widely known as China's phosphorus capital, the county plans to focus on promoting  industrialization, urbanization, agricultural modernization and the expansion and development of its tourism in the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).

The economic development zone, the Gangcheng economic zone and its selenium-rich industrial cluster will serve as the three main drivers for its renewed industrialization, according to officials.
