Kaiyang county – administered by Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – has invested 225.05 million yuan ($32.2 million) this year in its forestry sector, according to information recently released by the Kaiyang county government.
At present, Kaiyang has completed afforestation area of more than 5100 mu (340 hectares), implemented restoration and rehabilitation of 132,000 mu of forest, established 628,700 mu of ecological public welfare forests and protected 1,454,800 mu of natural forests.

Meanwhile, officials have surveyed 712,900 mu of the pine wood nematode disease area and they said that the monitoring and survey rate had now reached 100 percent.
Illegal and criminal activities that destroyed forest resources, such as deforestation and illegal occupation of forest land, were being effectively curbed.
A forestry management system at the county, town and village level has been established.
