Kaiyang recruits people to experience Miao culture

Guiyang's 9th Tourism Industry Development Conference and the 5th Agricultural Carnival which was held on Aug 25 in Kaiyang county, in southwestern Guizhou province, achieved some notable things, according to its organizers.

They said in order to allow more visitors to learn about Kaiyang's unique history and culture, 100 travel enthusiasts were recruited all over the country to participate in the event.

As part of the conference, a performance was given to showcase the intangible culture heritage of the Miao ethnic group.

The performance featured the bench dance, dustpan dance as well as an embroidery and batik show.

The traditional fish killing festival was also held, with about 100 people wearing Miao costumes and 100 travel enthusiasts catch fish in the rivers. They also had meals together, praying for good weather and good harvest.

Place staged: Farm culture experience garden in Hefeng township in Kaiyang county.

Activities:

1. Traditional fish killing festival, including sacrifice activity – praying for peace and prosperity, fish-killing activity and a meal;

2. Embroidery and batik skills show;

3. Dance show

Schedule: Aug 25, 2018 

9:20 am: Arrive at farm culture experience garden in the Hefeng township in Kaiyang county;

10:00 am – 10:40: Take part in the launching ceremony for the intangible cultural heritage exhibition for fish killing festival, dance performance and embroidery show;

10:40 am – 11:10 am: Ritual activity;

11:40 am – 12:10 pm: Fish catching competition;

12:10 pm – 1:10 pm: Fish meal from Miao ethnic group;

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Lunch;

2:00 pm: Visit tourist attractions independently.

Fees: 60 yuan ($8.5) each
