Maoyun township signs off on pepper-growing venture

Maoyun township in Kaiyang county – located in Guiyang in southwestern Guizhou province – on Nov 6 signed an agreement with Guizhou Guisanhong Food Co Ltd for a new 667-hectare pepper plantation.

Under the terms of the agreement, the company will buy high-quality peppers planted in Maoyun township and sell them throughout the country.

Officials said this would drive the production and creates more jobs, ensuring the smooth development of pepper plantation.

They said that after the establishment of the project, the income of local farmers in Maoyun township would rise, with an average increase of more than 5,000 yuan ($710) for each household per year.

Officials said that with the cooperation of the two sides, the township's agricultural industry would benefit and local organic agriculture would be further developed.
