Geographical advantage of Kaiyang county

Updated: 2019-09-25

Superior location

Kaiyang county is located in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guiyang province. Situated in central Guizhou, it is bordered by Weng'an and Fuquan in the east, Longli and Wudang in the south, Xiuwen and Xifeng in the west, and Wujiang and Zunyi in the north.

It covers 2,026 square kilometers, accounting for about one quarter of Guiyang's total area. It now has jurisdiction over eight towns, eight townships and two communities with a total population of 450,000.

Kaiyang is located in the Guiyang half-hour economic circle, the Guiyang-Zunyi economic zone, and the Weng'an-Kaiyang-Xifeng phosphorus and phosphorus chemical industry zone. It is the bridgehead of the central Guizhou economic circle's integration into the Yangtze River economic zone, and the gateway of Guiyang to Zunyi in the north.

The county deeply integrates the "central Guizhou economic circle" and the "northern Guizhou economic zone".

Kaiyang will build a convenient, modern comprehensive transportation network including civil aviation, railways and highways. Four expressways (the Guiyang-Zunyi, Guiyang-Weng'an, Kaiyang-Xifeng and Kaiyang-Weng'an expressways) three railways (the Guiyang-Kaiyang intercity railway, a branch line of the Sichuan-Guizhou railway, and the Jiuchang-Yongwen freight railway) and the Kaiyang Port and the Longdongbao International Airport will form an external transportation system.

The county plans to build more roads to link Kaiyang to its towns of Guiyang, Shuangliu, Huali, Nanmudu and Nanjiang and more ring roads to stretch to five ports including Luowang River, Longshui and Zhaiji.

These transportation infrastructure projects will help boost integrated development of the region and neighboring counties as well as unleash the potential of economic growth in rural areas.

The county boasts a good ecological environment. One of China's top 100 counties with best air, Kaiyang has forest covering 53.2 percent of its area, ranking first in central Guizhou. Dubbed a "natural oxygen bar" and "a holy land for old age and longevity", the county's ratio of good air days is over 86 percent.

The karst scenic spots in the county cover 211 sq km, and 437 new tourism resources have been discovered in Kaiyang. It is a world karst geological park and has two 4A-level scenic spots, namely, Nanjiang Grand Canyon and Baima Valley, as well as a number of beautiful natural landscapes. It is also known as the best destination for leisure tourism.

Kaiyang's charm can be also found in its splendid culture. For example, it is praised as the "hometown of Chinese prose poems".

At the same time, Kaiyang is also the cradle of the 1,000-year-long Tuisi culture of Shuidong. Ma Tou Zhai (an ancient architectural complex), located in Kaiyang's Hefeng township, was the site of the Diwo Explorer House of the Yuan and Ming dynasties (1271-1644).

Ma Tou Zhai is the oldest official Tusi village in existence in China and also boasts the best preserved Shuidong culture. The historical and cultural relics, Tusi culture, revolutionary tradition, agricultural culture and ethnic culture contribute to make Kaiyang a county with a unique cultural style.
